Yannick Nézet-Séguin is a Canadian conductor born on June 6, 1975, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He began his musical journey at the early age of six, studying piano and later moving to violin and conducting. Nézet-Séguin's passion for music led him to the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in music. He further honed his skills at the University of Montreal, studying musicology and pedagogy.
Nézet-Séguin's remarkable talent earned him the chance to work with the Orchestre Métropolitain, where he served as the music director from 2000 to 2010. His subsequent appointment as music director at the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra (2008-2013) marked a pivotal moment in his career. In 2017, Nézet-Séguin became the music director at the Philadelphia Orchestra, and in 2020, he joined the Metropolitan Opera as the general manager.
Nézet-Séguin has conducted numerous orchestras worldwide, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. His performances with artists such as Renée Fleming and Jonas Kaufmann have garnered critical acclaim.
