I Musici
Italian period instrument ensemble known for its critically acclaimed recordings and performances of Baroque and Classical music.
I Musici was a renowned Italian orchestra founded in 1945 by the Italian violinist and musicologist, Chiara Banchini. The ensemble was originally a string orchestra that specialized in performing Baroque and Classical music from Italy and the Low Countries.
Over the years, I Musici transformed into a period instrument ensemble, adopting instruments from the 17th and 18th centuries to recreate the sound of the early music era. This bold move allowed the ensemble to explore a wider range of repertoire and collaborate with prominent conductors, including Frans Brüggen and Gustav Leonhardt.
Throughout its history, I Musici has released numerous critically acclaimed recordings, many of which have garnered prestigious awards. The group's discography spans from Monteverdi's Madrigali guerrieri ed amorosi to Bach's Brandenburg Concertos and Vivaldi's Four Seasons.
I Musici's performances have taken the ensemble to esteemed music festivals across Europe, the Americas, and Asia. With their dedication to historical performance practices and their unwavering commitment to musical excellence, I Musici continues to inspire new generations of musicians.
Chiara Banchini, who served as the ensemble's music director from 1985 to 1991, ensured that the organization remained true to its artistic vision while adapting to the changing times. Her successor, Gianluca Capuano, has continued this tradition, leading I Musici on an exciting journey of musical exploration.
