He published his first story in 1937 and eventually moved to Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) to work as a journalist. During World War II, Clarke served in the Royal Air Force and later, the Royal Navy.
After the war, Clarke returned to writing and published several science fiction novels, including The Sands of Mars and The City and the Stars. However, it was 2001: A Space Odyssey that cemented his place in literary history. The book, co-authored with Stanley Kubrick, tells the story of human evolution, artificial intelligence, and the potential for extraterrestrial life.
