American bluegrass duo with a distinctive sound, popular in the 1940s and 1950s.

The Stanley Brothers, consisting of Clell Mulkey and Carter Stanley, were an American bluegrass and country music duo born in 1925 and 1926, respectively. Their music career began in the 1940s, with a mix of traditional and original songs. The duo's early success came with their single 'How Can We Thank Him for What He Has Done,' which gained popularity in the southern United States.

The brothers' unique harmonies and Clell's distinctive bass playing set them apart from other country artists. Their repertoire included gospel songs like 'My Lord's Going to Set Me Free' and 'Daniel Prayed'. In the 1940s and 1950s, they recorded several albums, including 'Hymns and Sacred Songs' and 'The Stanley Brothers and the Clinch Mountain Boys'.

Clell Stanley passed away in 1947, and Carter continued his career with various partners until his own demise in 1966. Despite a relatively short career, the Stanley Brothers left an indelible mark on the bluegrass and country music scenes.
