Glam-rock pioneer with a unique fusion of folk, psychedelic, and rock

Marc Bolan, the enigmatic mastermind behind T. Rex, was a British music icon of the 1960s and 1970s. Born on September 30, 1947, in Post War England, Bolan's early life was marked by a passion for music and a desire to escape the mundane. He began his career in the 1960s as a folk singer, eventually forming the band John's Children with Steve Marriot, Chris Townson, and Lucas Fool.

After a brief stint with John's Children, Bolan went on to form T. Rex, along with Mickey Finn, Steve Peregrin Took, and others. The band's early sound was reminiscent of folk and psychedelic rock, with a distinct British charm. Their debut album, My People Were Fair and Had Sky in Their Hair… But Now They're Content to Wear Stars on Their Brows, showcased Bolan's unique vocal style and poetic lyrics.

As the 1970s progressed, T. Rex's sound evolved into a more glam-rock aesthetic, with hits like 'Pon a Hill and The Seal of Seasons becoming staples of the era. Bolan's flamboyant stage presence and charismatic personality only added to the band's appeal, earning them a devoted following.

Despite personal struggles and creative differences within the band, Marc Bolan remained the driving force behind T. Rex, releasing a string of albums, including Unicorn, Tanx, and Champagne Concerto. His impact on the music world extended beyond his own work, as his influence can be seen in countless other artists who followed in his footsteps.

Tragically, Marc Bolan's life was cut short in a car accident on September 16, 1977, at the age of 29. His legacy, however, continues to inspire new generations of music fans, and T. Rex's music remains a testament to his innovative spirit and creative genius.
