Born on September 13, 1919, in Battersea, London, England, Shearing's music is characterized by his unique approach to jazz, often incorporating elements of classical and Latin music. His early life was marked by a love for music, which led him to join the British Royal Air Force (RAF) to play piano for entertainers during World War II.

    After the war, Shearing moved to the United States, where he collaborated with various jazz greats, including Buddy DeFranco, Art Farmer, and Nancy Wilson. His most iconic work, 'The George Shearing Quintet,' features hits like 'Concerto for Vibraphone, Piano, and Orchestra' and 'September in the Rain.'

    Throughout his career, Shearing has released numerous albums, including 'Complete Concord Recordings' and 'Verve Jazz Masters 57.' His collaborations with vocalist Mel Tormé produced the critically acclaimed 'An Evening With George Shearing & Mel Tormé.'
